Jar of Flowers - Wood Stain Technique

My inspiration for this card came from a wooden wall display that I saw online.

They had stained the wood and then painted the image onto the wood. I loved the wall hanging and thought to myself "I wonder if I could make a card like that"?

So using the Jar of Flowers and Butterfly Gala Stamps sets, the sponge brayers, white embossing powder and some stampin blends I recreated the look. I am very pleased with the final product. Hope you like it!

Project Recipe:

  1. Cut Instructions:
    Card Base: Night of Navy - 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 scored at 4 1/4
Layer 1 - In Good Taste Designer Series Paper (DSP) - 4 x 5 1/4 (Light wood grain)
Layer 2 - Flowers for Every Season Ribbon (Metallic Misty Moonlight/Whisper White bakers twine)
    Layer 3 - Whisper White - 4 x 5 1/4
  2. Layer 1 - Using the Sponge Brayers start at the bottom and apply a layer of Night of Navy ink. Then move up about 1 inch and apply a layer of Pacific Point ink. Move up another inch and apply a layer of Balmy Blue ink. You will want to go back over the other colors as you add them to get a good blend. (Note: You only want to go about 3/4 of the way up the sheet with the blue inks.)
  3. Layer 1 - After the ink has dried wipe the entire sheet with an embossing buddy. From the Jar of Flowers stamp set and using versa mark ink stamp the jar, tulips and stems. (I used the stamparatus for this as I was stamping over already stamped images) Cover stamped areas with White embossing powder and heat up with a heat tool.
  4. Layer 1 - Color in Tulips and small flowers with Magenta Madness Stampin Blends ( I used lovely lipstick as Magenta madness was not available at the time). Then with a white gel pen color in the leaves around the top of the tulips as shown.
  5. Layer 1 - Using the Butterfly Gala Stamp set stamp three butterflies with versa mark ink as shown. Cover with white embossing powder and heat up. Color in butterflies with Balmy Blue stampin blends.
  6. Layer 2 - Using the take a pick tool poke 2 holes on each side of the jar at the top where the lid would go. Then thread the ribbon through the holes and tie a bow. Adhere to the card front.
  7. Layer 3 - Stamp sentiment in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and a Butterfly as shown. Color in Butterfly with Balmy Blue stampin blends. Adhere to the inside of the card.
  8. To finish off adhere one Misty Moonlight Enamel Dots from the 2020-2022 In Color Enamel dots to the center of each butterfly.
